Jack White: Blunderbuss
Buy! - (Third Man/Columbia)
The first album Jack White has recorded under his own name features a more expansive and diverse sound than anything’s he’s recorded with The White Stripes, The Raconteurs or The Dead Weather, masterfully combining elements of garage-rock, folk-rock, blues, country, ragtime, funk, prog, psychedelia and more on imaginatively arranged songs of lost love and betrayal, with White’s spitfire guitar often taking a back-seat to vintage keyboards (acoustic piano, Hammond organ and Rhodes electric piano) and fleshed out with a variety of other instrumentation ranging from harp and clarinet to violin and pedal steel. While Blunderbuss may be less explosive than the music he made with The White Stripes, it still packs a powerful punch. 4/20/2012 - Don Yates
