The fourth album (and first in five years) from this Portland band led by James Mercer is an impressive set of sophisticated pop-rock with a more lush, polished and richly textured sound featuring chiming guitars and burbling synths along with a colorful variety of other instrumentation from mellotron to flugelhorn to flesh out Mercer’s beautifully crafted songs. 3/16/2012
