The NYC-based singer-songwriter takes a surprising left turn on his fourth album, a consistently strong set of soul-steeped folk-pop with a variety of beautifully crafted songs featuring gentle reverbed guitars, classic soul horns, atmospheric keyboards, intimate vocals and melancholy, introspective lyrics. While there are a couple of refreshing jolts of rockabilly energy, most of the album is haunting, low-key and deeply personal. 3/2/2012
