The Walkabouts: Travels in the Dustland
Buy! - (Glitterhouse)
This long-running Seattle band’s first full-length in six years is a concept album revolving around a fictional place called the Dustland that mirrors the desolation and hopelessness of America during the Great Recession. While that sounds potentially heavy-handed, they gracefully pull it off with a powerful, foreboding set of dark folk-rock ranging from intense rockers to plaintive, atmospheric ballads pairing beautifully crafted arrangements with bleakly evocative lyrics. 12/2/2011 - Don Yates
