Charles Bradley: No Time For Dreaming
Buy! - (Daptone)
Charles Bradley was down and out, performing at a lounge in Bed-Stuy, New York, when he was discovered in 2002 by Daptone Record’s Gabriel Roth. Roth immediately brought Bradley to Daptone’s Studios to record with the Sugarman 3, resulting in the single “Take It As It Comes.” Bradley proceeded to cut sporadic singles throughout the coming years in collaboration with Dirt Rifle and The Bullets (an early incarnation of The Budos Band) and Menahan Street Band. Eight years after his first single, Bradley offers his debut full-length album of heart-wrenching soul, R&B, and funk with lyrical content that revolves heavily around loss and disillusionment. Aided consistently along the way by the musical talents of Thomas Brenneck, songwriter/guitarist for The Budos Band, El Michels Affair, The Dap-Kings, and Menahan Street Band, No Time For Dreaming is perfectly at home on Daptone. 12/3/2010 - Alex
