This British band’s first album in seven years finds them in fine form with a kinder, gentler version of the sound of their classic 1997 album When I Was Born For The 7th Time, seamlessly blending ‘70s glam-rock, Beatlesque pop, electronics, hip hop, funk, soul, gospel, dub and lots of Indian pop flavor into catchy, hook-filled pop songs with bright melodies and exuberant harmonies. They may have sanded off a few of the edges over the years, but the sunny, relaxed vibe of this album is pretty irresistible. Out last summer in Europe, it’s now being released in the US. 4/2/2010
