Seasick Steve: Man From Another Time
Buy! - (Rykodisc/Atlantic)
Seasick Steve (aka Steve Wold) has lived a pretty amazing life, living as a hobo for decades while occasionally working as a session and touring musician before settling down in Olympia in the late 1980s. He started his own studio there, producing a number of records for Northwest bands, including Modest Mouse’s 1996 debut This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About. Later, he moved to Europe, finally recording his debut album in 2001 while living in Norway. British DJs latched onto it, and he eventually moved to England, releasing a couple more albums and becoming an unlikely pop star in his 60s. His 4th album (and first released in the US) is a raw, soulful set of primitive blues, ranging from Mississippi Hill Country stomp to acoustic folk-blues, with many of the songs reminiscing about his life as a rambler. 3/12/2010 - Don Yates
