Titus Andronicus: The Monitor
Buy! - (XL)
This New Jersey band’s 2nd album is even more ambitious than their impressive debut. A concept album that uses the Civil War as a metaphor to explore various divisions and struggles the band encounters in modern American life, The Monitor is stuffed with epic, multi-part songs of anthemic indie-rock incorporating strains of celtic, country and more. It’s also more fully produced than their lo-fi first album, with expansive arrangements using a variety of instrumentation along with an impressive supporting cast ranging from members of the Hold Steady, Vivian Girls, Wye Oak, and Ponytail to some of their New Jersey pals to flesh out some blazing, even heroic rock ‘n’ roll songs. 2/26/2010 - Don Yates
