This young Welsh singer debuts with a spot-on outing of torchy ‘60s soul suffused with plenty of drama and emotion. The gorgeous, spare orchestral accompaniment leaves plenty of room to showcase her achingly soulful vocals. Her marvelous voice has a slight huskiness that makes it all the more affecting, and she’s already a master of subtle soul inflections. 5/16/2008
