This 7-piece Welsh group’s debut full-length is a gleeful romp through hook-heavy, punked-up twee-pop. The band’s excited boy/girl chants and breathless shouting along with distinctive instrumentation including violin, glockenspiel and xylophone can’t obscure their well-crafted arrangements and clever lyrics that range from snotty, irreverent and self-mocking to emotional, heartfelt and poignant. Easily one of the year’s most exuberant records. 2/27/2008
