The White Stripes: Icky Thump
Buy! - (Warner Bros)
While the White Stripes experimented with piano and marimba-based compositions on the previous Get Behind Me Satan, they return to a more powerhouse rock sound on their 6th album with the instrumental focus squarely on Jack White’s explosive guitar work. Icky Thump is still fairly eclectic, even incorporating some flamenco and celtic accents at times, but it’s mostly about the thrill of a bad-ass guitar riff – White has never sounded so inspired, and he and Meg both revel here in bringing some of the most scorching blues-based rock since the heyday of Led Zeppelin. 6/13/2007 - Don Yates
