Bjork: Volta
Buy! - (One Little Indian)
The latest album from the eccentric Icelandic vocalist is a wildly eclectic outing of experimental pop ranging from percussion-heavy, ethno-electronic pieces to otherworldly orchestral ballads. Equally eclectic is the guest roster, including the great hip hop producer Timbaland, Malian kora player Toumani Diabate, the Congolese electric thumb-piano group Konono No. 1, cabaret pop singer Antony Hegerty, Lightning Bolt drummer Brian Chippendale and an Icelandic all-woman brass ensemble. Her range is almost as wide lyrically (though she touches upon politics and religion more than usual), and her agile vocals remain as untamed as ever. After all these years, there is still absolutely no one like her. 5/2/2007 - Don Yates
