This London band downplays the quirky cheekiness of their debut album in favor of more warmth and emotion on this excellent follow-up. While there’s still plenty of tongue-in-cheek humor, they dig deeper here both lyrically and musically, balancing irony with deep poignancy and working a variety of musical ideas into their adventurous electro-pop, which references Prince, DFA, New Order and more without directly aping anyone. 6/6/2006
