Nathan Fake: Drowning In A Sea Of Love
Buy! - (Border Community)
This is the debut full-length release from this Norfolk, England raised artist who now resides on Reading. Supposedly he recorded it with only a Junior Casio keyboard and a copy of Cubase 5, but this is as full and realized a recording as any you're likely to hear. The closest comparison that springs to mind is M83 (French artists Anthony Gonzalez), but I like Fake's songs a lot more as I find them to be far more beautiful and engaging. It never strays far from its sound - lovely synth chords over simple, minimal beats - but by the end of the last song you'll find yourself wanting more. A superb debut album from this rapidly rising artist. Also look out for the Drowning In A Sea of Love Remixes EP, which features a stunning remix done by Apparat of one of the best tracks on here. *This review done with help from Jeremy Grant 4/10/2006 - Don Yates
