The Coup: Pick a Bigger Weapon
Buy! - (Epitaph)
This Bay Area hip hop duo’s latest album finds them unbroken and unbowed, with Boots Riley firing off his typically provocative, politically militant rhymes over slinky funk grooves rooted in P-Funk, Too Short and early Prince. Accompanied by veterans of Parliament/Funkadelic, the Gap Band, Frankie Beverly & Maze and Tony! Toni! Tone! along with appearances from Talib Kweli, Black Thought (the Roots) and guitarist Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave), the Coup have created one of the first essential hip hop albums of 2006. 4/4/2006 - Don Yates
