William Orbit: Hello Waveforms
Buy! - (Sanctuary)
This is the fifth full-length release from British studio wizard, William Orbit, who has been making music for over twenty years now. It’s a beautifully serene, lush ambient electronic album with a healthy dose of acoustic instruments including piano, guitar, cello, violin, vibraphone, flute, clarinet, and horns. Several guest vocalists help out on a handful of the tracks, reminding the listener a bit of fellow UK band Zero 7. Orbit, who has perhaps more credits to his name as a producer than as a recording artist (among the artists he has produced records for are such names as Beth Orton, One Dove, Blur, and Madonna), has put his keen ears and immense production skills very closely to this work, as one can discern from the delicately molded hues and tones of these songs. Indeed, “Hello Waveforms” is a very fitting title for this sublime album. 3/6/2006 - Don Yates
