Morcheeba: The Antidote
Buy! - (Echo/World's Fair)
This British band’s fifth album finds them with a new lead vocalist and a revamped sound, with the band downplaying electronics and samples in favor of live instrumentation. Skye Edwards has been replaced by former Noonday Underground singer Daisy Martey, and the sound of Morcheeba has shifted closer to the eclectic, ‘60s-influenced dance-pop of her former band. British folk-rock, soul, cinematic pop a la Nancy Sinatra and Shirley Bassey, psychedelic rock and other ‘60s sources give a bolder flavor to Morcheeba’s music, with Martey’s brassy vocals being a great vehicle to drive home the band’s new songs and sound. 9/19/2005 - Don Yates
