Sons and Daughters: The Repulsion Box
Buy! - (Domino)
This Scottish band follows up last year’s mini-album with their first full-length release. It’s an outstanding album of punkish indie folk-rock featuring dark songs and an even darker sound, driven by tension-filled rhythms containing echoes of acknowledged influence Johnny Cash. Mandolins and acoustic guitars bring even more country and folk flavor into the mix, but this is no gentle pastoral outing. The band’s sound is edgy, aggressive and downright sinister, making the band musical cousins of Denver’s late great 16 Horsepower. 8/3/2005 - Don Yates
