The Mendoza Line: Fortune
Buy! - (Bar/None)
While this Brooklyn-based indie band’s music has often had a country tinge to it, the twang is more evident on their fifth album. At times, the album hearkens back to ‘70s country-rock, with Nick Lowe’s fusion of power pop and roots rock being a notably strong influence. The songs are one of their strongest batches to date, focusing more on social and political concerns this time around while still containing plenty of hooks and heart. 8/3/2004 - Don Yates
