Seachange: Lay of the Land
Buy! - (Matador)
A wonderful debut album of brooding, intense indie-rock anthems from this British band, combining ringing, sometimes blistering guitars and droning violin with Dan Eastop’s evocative lyrics and urgent, passionate vocals. Songs slide from passages of hypnotic beauty to ferocious, feedback-drenched noise-rock, containing echoes of the Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth, The Fall, Husker Du and other alt-rock greats without coming close to aping anyone. 3/29/2004 - Don Yates
