The Roots: Phrenology
Buy! - (MCA)
The fifth album from this Philadelphia hip hop group is their most musically expansive to date, incorporating everything from jazz and R&B to techno and hardcore punk, and most of the time they succeed gloriously. While a slew of special guests help out, the Roots keep the album focused with a variety of wicked live hip-hop beats and typically thoughtful rhymes from lead rapper Black Thought. 12/15/2002 - Don Yates
