Bap Kennedy: Domestic Blues
Buy! - (E Squared)
This Belfast-raised singer-songwriter's solo debut (he was formerly frontman for the band Energy Orchard) for Steve Earle's E Squared label is deliciously subtle and quietly soulful. There's a discernible Irish flavor to a few of the songs, but the emphasis is on smart, heartfelt songwriting and low-key acoustic twang. He's accompanied by a powerhouse lineup, and their mostly acoustic backing (along with the Twangtrust's uncluttered production) may remind you of Earle's Train A-Comin' album, but it's less intense and more relaxed. A truly wonderful album. 4/15/1998 - Don Yates
