Nottingham, England native Richard Warren is the man behind Echoboy. Moving away from his more experimental work on previous albums, Giraffe has more focus and decisiveness. Tweaked synths, a very crunchy, propulsive drumbeat and influences ranging from Bowie to New Order make for a variety of songs ranging from quirky, nervy electronic pop to some darker, harsher moments. It's a cohesive, staggering achievement. 2/15/2003
