Ah, the holiday season. Warming up with some hot cocoa while you watch the snow fall elegantly out your window. Families gathering together, embracing a spirit of goodwill and cheer. Henry Rollins and Captain Kirk screaming timeless Christmas carols in your ears. Chestnuts roasting on an...wait, hold up. What was that last one?
Your eyes don't deceive you. William Shatner has ventured into the music sphere numerous times over the years with his spoken word albums and he's back at it again with a new collection filled with holiday cheer and musical icons. The incredibly named Shatner Claus – The Christmas Album is due out Oct. 26 via Cleopatra Records and features an insanely impressive and fascinating list of collaborators, including Iggy Pop, ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons, Judy Collins, country star Brad Paisley and so much more.
Our first sampling from the sure to be classic holiday record comes with Shatner teaming up with the aforementioned legendary Black Flag frontman singing the timeless classic "Jingle Bells." As I'm listening to this, I am overwhelmed with thoughts but nothing can really compare to just listening to it for yourself. The instrumentation sticks with traditional Christmas music, backed with sleigh bells and pianos, while the two legends howl the famous words in staccato. Supposedly there's a "punk version" of the song on the album and I personally am anxious to hear it.
