The Showbox has temporarily been saved, due to a unanimous vote from the Seattle City Council to extend the Pike Place Market historical district to include the Showbox. The historical music venue was due for demolition to build a 44-story luxury high-rise in its place. A flood of music-lovers showed up to the City Council meeting to state their case on why the venue should be saved. "We don't need 442 luxury apartments," said Jordan Quinn, "adding millions to corporate profits which will not benefit me or the community." The City Council members agreed, ignoring the developers who were attempting to delay the vote. Councilmember Kshwana Sawant said it best, “It’s about saving our city.” The extension is due to expire in June of next year.
