At long last, Danger Mouse and James Mercer have finally teamed up again to bring us new Broken Bells material. It comes in the form of the song “Shelter,” which is the first we’ve heard from the duo since the 2015 single “It’s That Talk Again.” No word yet on whether the new single is a precursor to a forthcoming album or a standalone single.

The prolific producer and the Shins frontman initially teamed up in 2008 and released their self-titled debut in 2010 to rave reviews. They followed it up with 2014’s After the Disco, which is the last full-length project they’ve put out. Mercer released the Shins record Heartworms last year and its companion record The Worm’s Heart in 2018. Danger Mouse most recently produced Parquet Courts’ latest album Wide Awake!.

Listen to “Shelter” and watch Broken Bells’ 2014 KEXP in-studio performance below.
