“A revolution without dancing is not a revolution worth having.” - Emma Goldman

Yesterday marked yet another bad day in a series of bad days for equality in this new America, where rather than becoming greater under this current administration we’ve become more intolerant. It’s good, then, that Seattle duo SISTERS have unveiled a bright, optimistic, and all-around feel-good video for the song “Heart Beats.” Coming from the band’s sophomore album, Wait Don’t Wait, released last year, the song is a remarkably catchy disco jam that’s full of love and joy.

The video follows that same maxim, focusing on singer Andrew Vait as he gleefully dances his way through a parking garage and up an elevator to run into SISTERS’ other half Emily Westman beating on a drum. After jumping off the elevator, Vait meets up with none other than soul singer Allen Stone, who takes a break from mopping the building’s floors to merge with Vait for a choreographed dance routine. Breaking away from Stone, Vait reunites with Westman for a pop of confetti and lounging on a couch. The whole clip, directed by Stanton Stephens and produced by Thomas Ackels, was filmed in a single take and was clearly a very strategized undertaking.

SISTERS have always been outspoken about their support of queer people and queer culture. While things may seem incredibly bleak for all of us invested in the equality and safety of those who differ in color, gender, sexual orientation etc. from those currently holding office, the pop of confetti in “Heart Beats” should be a reminder that there’s still joy to be found when the community comes together and sometimes all we can do to make it through the pain is dancing it out.

Wait Don’t Wait follows Drink Champagne, both released in 2017, and was recorded at the legendary Different Fur Studios in San Francisco with producer Patrick Brown. The duo are currently on their first European tour and will return to play Seattle on Sunday, December 16 at the Neptune Theatre. Watch the video for "Heart Beats" below.
