  • Ohio alt-country singer-songwriter Jessica Lea Mayfield has contributed a holiday song to Amazon's Indie for the Holidays playlist. Taking on the 1966 anti-Christmas Christmas song by Loretta Lynn "To Heck With Ole Santa Claus," Mayfield turns the spirited original into a despondent slow-burner. She's also shared a video for the song directed by Christopher Good. The rather funny clip finds Mayfield leading a group of people that have been wronged by Santa into taking revenge on ole St. Nick. Mayfield released Sorry Is Gone a few months ago via ATO. KEXP is bringing Jessica Lea Mayfield to the Tractor Tavern on Saturday, February 3 with Sun Seeker. [ Paste ]
  • Last night Peter Hook and the Light gave the audience at London's Roundhouse a special treat by bringing up Mark Lanegan to pay homage to his late Joy Division bandmate Ian Curtis by covering a number of Joy Division classics. Lanegan (of Screaming Trees and Queens of the Stone Age) joined Hook during his encore to play "Atmosphere" and "Dead Souls." Before bringing Lanegan out, Hook told the audience: “OK, one of the great things about this job is that I get to play with my heroes. I want to dedicate this song to Ian Curtis and to sing it tonight we have Mark Lanegan.” Peter Hook and the Light will be stopping by Seattle on Thursday, May 10 to play the Neptune Theatre. [ NME ]
  • Last year Chicago's Chance the Rapper and Jeremih dropped a surprise holiday collaborative mixtape called Merry Christmas Lil Mama. Called Merry Christmas Lil Mama Re-Wrapped, the mixtape features appearances by comedian Hannibal Buress and rappers Noname and Lud Foe. [ Consequence of Sound ]
