Songs of Freedom: KEXP Video Roundup for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Video Roundup
Seattle residents march during a memorial for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. who was assassinated in 1968. (on display at the Northwest African American Museum)

Last night, a sold out crowd took over the Northwest African American Museum for the 17th Annual Expansions MLK Unity Party. As KEXP DJs Masa, Riz, Kid Hops, Alex, and Sharlese spun tracks, Seattleites of all races descended on the dance floor, a perfect way to celebrate the life and work of Martin Luther King Jr., spinning to a "beautiful symphony of brotherhood." On what would've been King's 88th birthday, KEXP salutes this great civil rights leader with a Video Roundup.

Today would also be a great day to revisit KEXP's Documentary series, Civil Rights Songs, a 10-episode on the civil rights era of the 1950s and 1960s and beyond. Songs that remind us that the fight for equality under the law, for all, is not over yet.
