Every Monday through Friday, we deliver a different song as part of our Song of the Day podcast subscription. This podcast features exclusive KEXP in-studio performances, unreleased songs, and recordings from independent artists that our DJs think you should hear. All this week we are celebrating Seattle Pride and PrideFest 2015 by featuring all LGBT artists for our "Song of the Gay" podcast. Today's featured song is "Casual Friends" by Seattle group Dust Moth from the 2015 album Dragon Mouth on The Mylene Sheath.

Dust Moth - Casual Friends (MP3)

Featuring current and former members of Seattle bands These Arms Are Snakes, Minus the Bear, and XVIII Individual Eyes, Seattle quintet Dust Moth fashions songs that are lush with atmosphere yet deceptively heavy, topped by the haunting vocals of frontwoman Irene Barbaric.

Inspired by “all of the beautiful, weird strangers and acquaintances” who pass through Barbaric’s life, “Casual Friends” stands out as one of the highpoints on the band’s 2014 debut EP, Dragon Mouth. “The song is about the ones you keep and keep you in return - particularly the ones you knew you loved from the very beginning,” says Barbaric.

You can check out Dust Moth in-person at the Tractor Tavern on Saturday, July 4. Until then, keep up with the band via their Facebook and Bandcamp pages, and check out this Living Phantoms remix of "Casual Friends":

Tune in to KEXP all week to find out more about the Pride events happening around Seattle, including KEXP's Pride Party, this Sunday, June 28th, at 5 Point Café in downtown Seattle.
