Mariachi and punk don’t seem like harmonious ingredients for palatable, let alone outstanding, music, but hardcore punk band The Bronx were creative (and brave) enough to try it out. The unprecedented hybrid punk/mariachi band they formed, named Mariachi El Bronx, had enough talent, appeal and nicely tailored charro outfits to release not one but three albums. Following up the aptly named III, released just last month, all eight members of Mariachi El Bronx packed into KEXP’s studio for a set of songs that, like most punk and mariachi music, only gets better when performed live.
