It’s time again for Friday on My Mind, our weekly blog post where we stop to look at videos centered around one common theme. This is a collaborative effort between KEXP and King 5 News.

Hopefully everyone has fully recovered from their New Year’s celebrations. As we settle into the new year, we’ve decided to take a look at local bands to watch out for 2013. Here are a few of the names to keep on your radar as you head out to support your local record stores and live music venues around town:

Rose Windows - Wartime Lovers (LIVE on KEXP)

The band consists of a whopping seven members and has been causing quite a buzz. At KEXP, we’ve been lucky enough to have our hands on a demo copy of their debut full length, Sun Dogs, which will see an official release during 2013. Until you can get your own copy of the album, make sure to support them by catching them live. Their next show will take place on Tuesday January 29th at the Neptune.

BellaMaine - Heartbeat

BellaMaine formed in 2009 and centered around husband and wife, Nick and Julianne Thompson. Originally hailing from Anacortes, Washington, BellaMaine now basing operations here in Seattle. An Anxious Mind is the name of their new EP and they intend to tour during 2013. They can been seen at the Crocodile on Sunday January 20th.

Stephanie - Ice Cream (LIVE on KEXP)

This Seattle band released their debut full length One Glove at the end of 2012. Erik Blood was at the helm of production duties for the album. The band likes to refer to their take on the shoegaze sound as “swirl”. They have been kind enough to perform as a part of our Audioasis Benefit Show taking place tomorrow, January 5th, at the Sunset Tavern to benefit Food Lifeline along with Don’t Talk to the Cops, Dude York, and Wimps, and they'll also be live on KEXP's Audioasis tomorrow at 6:30PM, so tune in and then head over to The Sunset in Ballard.

Aaron Beam, bassist for Portland’s Red Fang, once told me that he believed the long-standing punk-versus-metal dichotomy died when Metallica’s 1984 sophomore album Ride the Lightning came out.
