Tarkio - Omnibus) (Kill Rock Stars)
It's true, I love the Decemberists. So when I found out that Kill Rock Stars was reissuing Tarkio, the band Collin Meloy was in before the Decemberists, I was stoked. It's a great alt-country indie rock record, and very insightful. As the songs progress you can see how Melloy's written style matures from the straightforward to the literary and whimsical lyrics of today's Decemberists. Good stuff!

Various Artists - Run The Road 2) (Vice)
Another great Grime/Garage compilation from Vice Records. The first brought us Lady Soverign, Wiley and more. This new compilation introduces American audiences to a great track by Plan B, JME, Klashnekoff and more.

Lori Meyers - Hostal Pimodan) (Houston Party Records)
Beautiful new album from this Spanish band. John Richards says their sound is somewhere between Aqualung and Dungen...and I'd say he's right.

The Advantage - Elf Titled) (5RC)
Do you like Nintendo? How about rock? What about rock covers of Nintendo songs? Yes?? Well then the Advantage is for you. Like their first self titled relase, this one is chalked full of great covers, including Contra, Metroid, Bomberman, Castlevania, Double Dragon, Megaman and Qizars & Wariors. And the music itself is driving, energetic rock, played by members of the band Hella.

The Liars - Drums Not Dead) (Mute)
Noise rock group, Liars, return with another concept album, this time revolving around the relationship between two forces: Mt. Heart Attack (who represents stress and self-doubt) and Drum (the embodiment of creative energy and productivity). A step away from the feverish pitch and primal energy of previous releases, Drums Not Dead, is still creepy as hell, but at times reminds me of a slower less manic animal collective. I do love them though.
