Detroit’s Stef Chura is releasing her sophomore album Midnight on June 7 via Saddle Creek. Following 2017’s Messes, the new record will be her debut on the label. Our Song of the Day is the record’s first single “Method Man,” a ripping thrasher that sees Chura growl out her resentment towards a patronizing figure.
“He is a method man/ Sipping on a taurine can/ Rippin’ up a box of books he says I’ll never understand,” she sings.
Midnight was produced by Car Seat Headrest’s Will Toledo and on “Method Man” he also plays bass, guitar, and synth.
"I’m usually dealing with the context of what I can’t say or haven’t said," says Chura in a statement. "A kind of spiritual bondage that I would say most people, probably a lot of female-bodied ones, put themselves through. This album has a depth to it and a particular sound because of Will."
Chura will be in Seattle on Wednesday, July 31 to play Barboza. Below, watch the video for Messes track “Speeding Ticket.”
