Czech Republic’s Please The Trees originally hail from the forests of a mountainous region in East Bohemia but have been running the Prague music scene since 2007, when they released their debut record Lion Prayer. In September, they unveiled their fifth studio album, Infinite Dance, which saw the band stretch themselves to explore more psychedelic and krautrock realms. Our Song of the Day, “Mind & Care,” is a dark and mesmerizing song that is immediately entrancing, building suspense with how it slowly unfolds.
The band has an impressive resume, with their 2012 album A Forest Affair awarded the prestigious Angel Prize (the Czech equivalent of a Grammy Award for the Best Alternative Music Album) while Infinite Dance won the Czech Critics’ Award as an album of the year. Infinite Dance was produced by the in San Francisco with Brandon Eggleston (who has previously worked with a.o. tUnE-yArDs, Modest Mouse and Pretty Girls Make Graves), and features guest appearances by John Grant, Corey Gray (The Decemberists, The Dandy Warhols), Martin Tvrdy, and Thor Harris (ex-Swans, Thor & Friends).
Watch the video for the record’s title track below. Directed by the Stepan FOK Vodrazka in one take, the video sees Czech dance company 420PEOPLE and Please The Trees frontman/guitarist Václav Havelka tumbling over each other in a sandy and swampy landscape.
