A couple weeks ago, Trevor Powers released his debut album under his birth name titled Mulberry Violence. Formerly known for his intimate recording under the moniker Youth Lagoon, Powers wanted to step away from the name for his new music. Our song of the day, “Ache,” was one of the first singles released alongside the album announcement back in May. “Mulberry Violence is the intersection of these two dimensions,” Powers explained in statement, referring to mulberries and violence. “It is where the stillness meets pandemonium. Dead air meets babel. Harmony meets war. Sisters from the same room, separated at birth. It serves as a personal document of the everlasting battle inside of us. No one has it figured out; least of all me.”
Trevor Powers will play Barboza on Thursday, September 27. Watch Powers’ debut KEXP in-studio performance as Youth Lagoon from 2015 below.
