Petal is the project of Pennsylvania musician Kiley Lotz, who creates vulnerable, earnest indie-rock under the moniker. She released her debut album, Shame, in 2015 and, in June, finally followed that up with the record Magic Gone. “Better Than You” was the album’s fuzzy lead single. "'Better Than You' is about my struggle of trying to maintain my love of making music while feeling resentful and cynical of the industry,” Lotz previously explained. “The album deals with a lot of the events leading up to and after my serious spiral of mental health issues and going into intensive treatment for them. My struggle to want to feel accepted and acknowledged in the music industry, when it felt like no one cared about my well being in that industry, made me angry and sad." In the video for song, directed by Christopher Good and designed by Andreina Byrne, Lotz plays a nightmarish game of Whack-A-Mole. Watch the video below while we wait for Petal’s KEXP in-studio performance, recorded in July, to be posted online.
