Icelandic multi-instrumentalist duo Hugar (Bergur Þórisson & Pétur Jónsson) released their debut self-titled instrumental album in 2014. Our Song of the Day, “Waves,” was a one-off single released back in 2016 that sees the band expanding their sound by bringing in Agent Fresco lead singer Arnór Dan to take on vocal duties. The result is a stunningly gorgeous single about “searching for solace.”

“I’ve always been fascinated by the ocean,” says Dan, who helmed the lyrics. “It’s a place of peace and immense beauty, but it’s also a powerful force not to be messed with, especially here in Iceland. The waves have taken a lot of souls, sadly some of them voluntarily. In short, 'Waves' is a song about searching for solace.”

Below, watch the self-made video that focuses on some kaleidoscopic shots of ocean waves and glacial mountains from the band’s home of Iceland.  And tune in on Wednesday, November 7th as KEXP is broadcasting live from Reykjavik for the Iceland Airwaves Music Festival; Hugar will be live on the air at 08:30 AM PST/ 11:30 AM EST.
