Phoenix guitarist Laurent Brancowitz was originally in a Beach Boys inspired trio called Darlin'. The other two members were Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, who would go on to become Daft Punk. A review in Melody Maker called Darlin', "a bunch of daft punk," which is where Bangalter and Homem-Christo got the name for their soon to be formed electronic duo.
