When the punk explosion quieted at the end of the '70s, a whole new genre called post-punk crawled out of the wreckage. Where punk was raw, post-punk was sophisticated. Where punk was angry, post-punk was brooding. Punk was simple and post-punk was layered. The best example of this was the Sex Pistols lead singer Johnny Rotten who left the legendary punk band to start a post-punk group Public Image, Ltd.
In this 10-part series of short radio stories KEXP's Documentary team
looks at the spark behind the movement.
We’ll feature the stories of post-punk heroes like Bauhaus, The Cure,
Joy Division, Echo and The Bunnymen, Wire, Siouxie and The Banshees,
Public Image, Ltd and more.
