Hans grew up in Minnesota on a steady diet of Polka and Alternative radio, on occasion tuning into to DJ Kevin Cole to hear him throw down the latest in hardcore Belgian dance styles along home-grown acid beats on Radio Depth Probe. He received his degree in Creative Writing and Journalism from Beloit College in Wisconsin, but spent the better part of his time there working at WBCR 90.3 FM, serving as DJ, Music Director, and Station Manager over his tenure. Since then he has had the great pleasure to work in two incredible record stores; Cheapo records in Minneapolis and Everyday Music in Seattle where he has been an assistant manager for a few years now. You may have seen Hans running around the station, assisting Cheryl and Kevin every week for the last year. His all-time top five: The Beatles, James Brown, David Bowie, Yo La Tengo, and Prince. Top albums of 2010 thus far: Arcade Fire, Sharon Jones, Beach House, Perfume Genius, and Aloe Blacc. He looks forward to much more top-five nerding-out to come… Despite the dire times of “physical media,” Hans finds great reward in connecting people with music at EM and feels incredibly honored that he can now assist KEXP in the same venture.
