Charity of the Month
For 10 years, the CD Forum has been challenging the definition of Black through their unique Performing Arts and Humanities series. Whether presenting and producing contemporary Black art or encouraging thought and debate around issues that affect our community in Seattle, CD Forum will challenge your assumptions about Black culture.
This month KEXP spotlights CD Forum, inspiring new thoughts and challenge assumptions about African-American culture for 10 years.
5 Things you can do right now to get involved with the CD Forum:
- Buy tickets to the hottest dance premiering on the West Coast February 19th and 20th! Co-commissioned by the CD Forum, Rigidigidim De Bamba De: Ruptured Calypso is an exploration of a calypso-based style of dance known as “winding.” New York Times describes “winding” as “a powerful, erotically charged rhythmic dance named for its sinuous, circular pelvic motion.” Don’t miss this newest work by Cynthia Oliver Dance Company Theatre - buy your tickets now!
- Intelli-date with the CD Forum! Join our panel for a discussion about foster care on Thursday, March 25th. The CD Forum brings together the personal and the academic for a look at the phenomenon known as “aging out” – the point at which a child loses support of the foster care system – and asks “What Next”. Continue the conversation over food and drinks at dish(course)! Get more information on our website.
- Get social with the CD Forum! Become our fan on Facebook and follow us on Twitter.
- Foodies Unite! Our annual fundraiser, Food As Art, brings together the top Black chefs and restaurateurs in Seattle. This is a dish too delicious to miss!
- Volunteer at our events or in our office! Like many small non-profits, the CD Forum relies on its community for support. Attend our events for free or just lend a helping hand. Email us at info@cdforum.org for more information.

About Community Partnerships
KEXP’s Audioasis
local music program designed this initiative to create connections between KEXP listeners
and deserving local charities. The hope is that these connections will result in an increase
in awareness of the mission and work of local organizations and the
impact they have on the larger community.
The 2010 Application cycle is now open. Applications are due April 16th, 2010. Application Form and instructions can be downloaded here:

Application FAQs & Tips
I want KEXP to promote my fundraising/community event
The vision of the Community Partnerships program is to create a connection between our listeners and the local non-profit organizations. We recommend that you focus your promotions on how the community can get involved in your organization. We do not recommend you use this program to promote a specific event.
If you are interested in KEXP sponsoring your event, visit the Event Sponsorship page.
Another option is to utilize KEXP Underwriting.
What Makes a Good Application?
KEXP wants you to promote the mission of your organization in the best way you know how. There are no tricks we’re looking for. The top three things which help the most are following the application instructions, Having an understanding of KEXP and being flexible
Who Picks The Winners?
Each year KEXP has a committee of employees and volunteers who represent
different departments who get together to choose the organizations. The
team is led by John Richards and Melissa Collett, a volunteer who runs
the program. The team works together to choose a diverse group of
non-profits and to identify types of organizations which have been
underrepresented in past years. This team does not come into the
meetings with an idea of who they are going to choose. It is a
collaborative effort to make sure a cross-section of the community is
represented. Sometimes that means that amazing programs that everyone
likes did not get chosen. It also means that every year the diversity
will look a little different.
In the guidelines it says “preference will be given to” – what does that mean?
KEXP wants to focus on small non-profits which traditionally can not afford to pay for the type of promotions this program offers. KEXP also wants to represent good causes. KEXP will sometimes choose organizations which have budgets over $2 Million. If you have the time to write the application, please apply.
Auctions and in-kind donations
In general, KEXP does not give away items for raffles or auctions.
